The pi chart represents how the total 81 dogs were split up.
1/3 of 81 were Beagles 2/9 of 81 were Labrador Retrievers 1/8 of 81 were Bulldogs 1/3 of 81 were Boxers
We are looking for Labrador Retrievers, so we must find 2/9 of 81, or, in other words,
2/9 x 81
Rewrite it as: [tex] \frac{2}{9} * \frac{81}{9} [/tex]
You can cancel out the 9's in both fractions to make it simpler. [tex] \frac{2}{9} * \frac{81}{1} = \frac{2}{1} * \frac{9}{1} [/tex]
18 is the number of Labrador Retrievers. _________________________________________________ If you don't understand the crossing out fractions, think of it this way... [tex] \frac{2}{9} * \frac{81}{1} = \frac{162}{9} = 18[/tex]
Just multiply numerators AND denominators, don't leave denominators the same (this is not adding)
