The average rate of change of [tex]f(x)[/tex] on [tex]12\le x\le36[/tex] is the difference quotient

[tex]\dfrac{f(36) - f(12)}{36 - 12} = \dfrac{28 - 34}{24} = \boxed{-\dfrac14}[/tex]
