Cable has given people access to a vast array of channels that they can watch based on their interests. This has however influenced the amount of knowledge on current affairs that people have.
This happened simply because people who do not have a liking for news can simply avoid news channels and watch other channels that interest them.
Those people will therefore be lacking in information regarding current affairs which would then increase the knowledge gap between those people and people who watch the news.
